RHINO RALLY

19th August 2001

The 14th annual Rhino Rally was held at Tong (W, Yorks) for the second year running. Over 320 Suzukis drove through the gates, with just about all those having at least one blast round the off road course. Some of the newer machines however spent the day in the carpark just soaking up the atmosphere.

Those who did venture off the beaten track were definitely not disappointed, Brilliant sunshine and sporadic storms left the place oozing with rivers of mud, and plenty of opportunities to try out recovery techniques. The Concours competition was a very popular event and a big 'Well done' to Neil Wade who won two of the three categories and to Darren Wilson who won the third.

Not only was it just off roading, for the kids there were remote control cars and the MAXI 6x6 amphibious vehicle doing laps of the lake. For the adults there was archery and courtesy of Rhino Ray, a reverse steer SJ which was immense fun. Proud to say I was quoted as being "very good" at maneuvering it, without hitting a single cone. Also as an added attraction were the 4-strong Suzuki demo fleet which were kept busy all day doing trips round the course.

And finally a mention to Brian Hartley and his Redcoats who kept everything running smoothly. Cheers!
